Catch Up: The Rest of September (19-30)

It is hard to keep up with this.  I apologize. Let's get through the rest of September.

September 19th
I don't have notes about this date. Argh!

September 20th: Day 36
Today we had some lumber delivered – the remaining T&G needed to finish the west soffit, and the 4x4 sill plates that hold the sprags (nails pounded into them, but stick out about 3-3.5") that hold the straw bale to the foundation and create a moisture/vapor break between the foundation and the straw.  Brian finished placing the attic vents on the back side of the tallest parapets and built all of the bucks for the doors and windows (the frame that holds the window or door within the bale walls, see picture).  Between now and the metal roofing delivery later next week, they will be working on things like finishing the soffit and placing the 4x4 sill plates.

Straw has been purchased – it is barley straw from the Alamosa, CO area.  He is currently working on arranging transportation for the 250 bales.  He anticipates delivery in early October.

One of the window bucks built by our contractor - very beefy.

September 23 Day 37
Installation of vapor barrier and sill plates and the utility room door buck.

September 24 Day 38 (didn't get pictures)
I don't have notes either, but probably finished the soffit and installing the rest of the sill plates.

September 25 No work on house (waiting for metal for roof)
September 26 No work on house (ditto)
September 27 No work on house (ditto)

Brent gone from 9/27 – 10/5

September 30th Day 39 – roofing arrived and they began installation
Brian and Robin began installing the metal roof.  There were 30ft long pieces, so we had to wait for a time with the local supply store had a truck they could leave for a few days so the metal had a safe place to hang out until used.

We installed a Fabral brand metal roof in Patina Green.

That's it for September....on to October...
